1st Solar Powered Solar Decathlon University entry in History! DALE - Cal Tech Team

1st. Solar Powered build @ Solar Decthlon in history!
SOLAR POWERED BUILDING FOR CAL TECH at SOLAR DECATHLON 2013

for immediate release 9/21/2013:

A team of architecture students from the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) and engineering students from California Institute of Technology (Caltech) are building a one-of-its-kind, solar-powered net-zero home that will enable residents to change the configuration of their living environment based on preference, presenting homeowners with a house uniquely suited for their needs. Currently being built on the SCI-Arc campus in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, DALE, which stands for Dynamic Augmented Living Environment, proposes a completely new approach to sustainability and includes many other engineering and design breakthroughs that ensure its energy usage is optimized.

This unique home is being developed for the Solar Decathlon 2013, an international competition sponsored by the United States Department of Energy. The competition will for the first time take place in California, at the Orange County Great Park in Irvine, where it will culminate in a Solar Village open to the public from October 3-13.

The SCI-Arc/Caltech team is also only, one of two Universities, Standford being the other, Solar Powering their build site in Irvine, prior to the event. Never before in the history of the Solar Decathlon has any team used portable Solar Power for building! When the House is complete, on site, DALE will be plugged into the grid, Solar Powered by its own home array.

The Portable Solar Power is being supplied by a Non-Profit Organization, Power Of Green L.A. & their youth group, Green Panthers. The organization provides free Green Tech training to low/no income Americans and, indeed, all of the Solar Generators were made, and sponsored by these students, some specifically for DALE. Also, unique to this event, Green Panther Solar Powered Media crew will be filming & broadcasting, all off-grid using these small portable units. Standford is being powered by Sol-Solutions, who is partnered with Power Of Green L.A.

American innovation at its best, its very best and power sponsored by fellow citizens who care! The Solar Decathlon 2013 will prove to be very exciting this year and , of course, may the best team design win!
